1. All About h2g2

1.1 What is h2g2?
h2g2 is the Official Earth Edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy - an all-encompassing reference work consisting of thousands of Entries on subjects ranging from Aerosol Deodorants to Zoos.
h2g2 is not simply a collection of Guide Entries, it's a gathering of tens of thousands of Guide Researchers who read and write Entries, have discussions in Forums and write their own Journals and Personal Home Pages for everyone else to see.
And it's fun. Most definitely fun.

1.2 What can h2g2 do for me?
Now you're asking! Where do you want me to start? At the beginning? OK...
First and foremost, h2g2 is cool. It's a fun place to hang around, it's unique and it's a vibrant, constantly-changing community where everyone can find their niche and make friends. But beyond the pop psychology there are plenty of things h2g2 can do for you:

* Use the Guide
h2g2 is packed with thousands of interesting Guide Entries - some funny, some serious, all a good read and all, to some extent, useful. Some of the Entries have been approved by the editorial team, which means that we particularly like them, but the Guide doesn't stop there: every few minutes our Researchers - that's you - are adding new Entries on everything from Japanese Bath Houses to Sandwich Making, and it's all accessible through our Search Engine. * Take part in discussions in the Forums
h2g2 is full of Forums. Every single Guide Entry has its own Forum hanging off the bottom: a Forum is simply a collection of Conversations between Researchers, and you can join in the Conversation or just lurk around, reading what other people think. Because they're such fun, here's a whole section devoted to Forums.

* Write your own Guide Entries and Journal
When you register as a Researcher (see here for information - all you need is an email address and it's totally free) you get your very own own Personal Home Page, which you use to access all your Forum postings, to write Guide Entries and Journal Entries, and to show as much (or as little) information about yourself as you like. This is such a cool feature of h2g2 that we've got a whole section devoted to your Personal Home Page.
